Faster Transition to Clean Energy
The government has decided to accelerate the green energy transition (the process of shifting from fossil fuels like coal to eco-friendly sources) to protect the planet. Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment Kim Sungwhan announced that the plan to increase the share of renewable energy—electricity made from natural sources like the sun and wind—will be moved forward from the original 2030 target.
Why the Timeline is Changing
As the impact of climate change worsens globally, reducing carbon emissions has become an urgent task. To achieve carbon neutrality (balancing the amount of carbon emitted with the amount removed from the atmosphere), we must replace fossil fuels with green energy much faster than previously planned.
"Climate action is a task that cannot be delayed. We will turn the clock of energy transition faster for a cleaner future."
What Changes Can We Expect?
This accelerated plan will lead to visible changes in our daily environment:
- Solar and wind power plants will be built more rapidly.
- Air pollution will decrease as our reliance on fossil fuels drops.
- New jobs will be created in the growing green energy sector.
The government plans to finalize specific action steps following this announcement to ensure a clean and safe energy future for everyone.
