A New Face for Ulsan Nam-gap

The race to fill the vacant seat in the Ulsan Nam-gap district is heating up. This by-election (an election held to replace a representative who left office before their term ended) was triggered by Kim Sang-wook's decision to run for the mayor of Ulsan.

The Democratic Party's Strategy: "Hometown Advantage"

The Democratic Party (DP) has decided to prioritize recruiting talent with local roots. Cho Seung-rae, a senior official of the party, announced that they are currently in contact with potential candidates who are originally from Ulsan.

"We are identifying and contacting talented individuals from Ulsan to represent the party in the upcoming Nam-gap by-election."

Why Local Roots Matter in Politics

In politics, choosing a candidate from the local area is crucial because they can easily connect with the residents. It is similar to how a neighborhood leader who grew up in the same area is more likely to understand the community's unique problems.

The DP's criteria for the new candidate include:

  • Ulsan Origin: Someone with a deep understanding of the city and emotional ties to the people.
  • Fresh Talent: New experts from outside the current political circle to provide a fresh perspective.
  • Electability: A competitive figure capable of winning over local voters.
