Legal Action Taken Against Student Attacker
Police have applied for an arrest warrant (a legal document used to detain someone when there is serious suspicion of a crime or a risk of flight) for a high school senior in Gyeryong. The student is accused of stabbing a male teacher in his 30s multiple times during school hours at 8:44 a.m. on Monday.
Although the student fled the scene immediately after the incident, he later turned himself in to the police station to confess his actions.
A Grudge Rooted in the Past
Investigators believe the attack was premeditated (planned in advance rather than happening spontaneously). The student reportedly held deep resentment against the teacher from their time together in middle school, which is like a long-standing bad memory that never faded away.
Investigation Insight: The student claimed the teacher treated him with excessive harshness years ago, which led to a refusal to attend school and persistent emotional distress. The situation escalated when the teacher was recently reassigned to the student's current high school.
Victim Status and Ongoing Investigation
The teacher sustained injuries to his jaw and shoulders. While he underwent surgery and is currently in recovery, hospital officials confirmed that his injuries are not life-threatening.
- Incident Location: A high school in Gyeryong, South Korea
- Victim's Condition: Non-life-threatening, recovering after surgery
- Key Investigation Point: Determining the exact level of planning and the history of the conflict
Once the court decides on the warrant, police plan to delve deeper into the student's history and investigate the lack of security measures that allowed the weapon onto school grounds.
